Tech Job Openings Across NC Surge 40% as COVID Drives More Digital Adoption

Home-based work arrangements and the need for secure computer networks have created a surge in demand for I/T workers in North Carolina. The NC Technology Association reports that as of July, the state had 40,576 available I/T jobs — a 42% increase from the same time last year. And opportunities are not limited to big metro areas: Greenville and New Bern, for example, more than doubled their postings, while Goldsboro saw a 528% increase. Nationally, the US posted more than 1.2 million available I/T jobs. “Remote work, remote access to services, and remote delivery of products all expanded during the last 18 months,” says Dr. Mike Walden, a Raleigh-based economist and consultant. “There’s expectation this expansion will continue, even once the pandemic has receded.” Cyber-security specializations led the way in terms of credentials employers are now seeking.
