North Carolina Ports Secures $62.8 Million to Fuel Expansion

A $62.8 million loan from SunTrust Bank is enabling the North Carolina State Ports Authority to acquire three “neo-panamax” ship-to-shore cranes, which will allow the Port of Wilmington to attract and accommodate the largest container ships calling on the East Coast. Two of the three cranes arrived in Wilmington on March 29, with the third expected to be installed in early 2019. The move, part of a $200 infrastructure improvement effort, brings the number of ship-to-shore cranes serving the Port of Wilmington to seven.
